Loot Principles

Introduction

Surreal uses a Loot Council to determine loot distribution in raids. In a loot council system, guild leaders vote on each item for distribution to raid participants. More information on Loot Council in general can be found here: https://wowwiki.fandom.com/wiki/Loot_council

Priority

Priority always starts with main tanks. From there, guild ranking is considered -- raiders will generally have priority over recruits and casuals. Fundamentally, we weigh the following on each piece of gear to drop.

  • Performance: how a raid participant performs in general. This is measured not only with damage, threat and healing meters, but also in positioning, aggro management, talent builds, and the like. Following each clear of content, guild leaders review logs for performance to measure each raid participant. If you have questions on how you can improve, please contact an officer.
  • Preparation: coming prepared to make a maximum positive impact on the raid. This includes consumables (such as flasks, elixirs, and food buffs), equipment (farming pre-raid BiS, enchants on gear, and resistance gear where applicable), world buffs, punctuality to raid time, etc.
  • Participation: actively engaging in the guild activities. This includes not only raid attendance, but also participating in guild activities as a whole. An active guild is a healthy guild, and we do reward members who are active in chat, discord, and in-game. Guildies who are active and help others (through attunements, gear farming, professions, etc) benefit the guild over individuals who only log in to raid.

Lastly, one of the strengths of the Loot Council system is the ability to prioritize items for what is best for the guild as a whole. For example, there are situations where the council may decide to have certain restrictions (for example requiring the Eye of Shadow before distributing the Eye of Divinity) or will adjust priority to allow a participant a particular item to reach a set bonus.

Closing

Hopefully, this helps explain our approach to loot distribution. We recognize that there are many methods to distribute loot (such as DKP, Gold DKP, random rolls, fastest to click…); however, based on our experience, the loot council best positions us to fairly distribute gear and clear more content.

We appreciate your trust in us as guild leaders. If you have any questions about the format or how you can improve your priority, feel free to reach out to an officer.

We look forward to progression and the many purples that come with it.
